Our story. Our passion.

Discover the heart behind Wetzel County Griffins.

We're more than just a league; we're a community dedicated to building strong foundations, both on and off the field.

Where we came from and where we are going

Originally known as the New Martinsville Junior Football Eagles, the league began in 2005 with a simple vision: to provide the youth athletes of our community with a place to learn the fundamentals of football and cheerleading.  As the years have passed, and schools who were once rivals are now being consolidated, our vision is not only growing but also evolving.  Therefore, after our 2025 season, we became the Wetzel County Griffins.  Welcoming athletes from all schools in our county and honoring our 2 most rival schools by combining their mascots to create a strong legendary mascot for our athletes of the future.

We are a group of volunteer parents driven by the desire to instill crucial life skills such as sportsmanship, a strong work ethic, and responsibility. Our goal is to create an environment where young athletes can compete, grow, and build lasting friendships, all while having fun and developing a lifelong love for the sport.

More than just a game

Beyond teaching the core techniques of football and cheerleading, we strive to offer every child a unique and enriching experience. Our program is designed to foster personal growth, resilience, and teamwork. We believe in creating a supportive community where young athletes can discover their potential, overcome challenges, and celebrate successes together. Through coaching and peer interaction, we aim to build character that extends far beyond the playing field, preparing them for future endeavors.

Our dedicated leaders

At Wetzel County Griffins, our coaching staff and leaders are the heart of our program. All of our coaches are volunteer parents, many of whom have current or former athletes participating in our league. They are deeply committed to the development of our players and cheerleaders, dedicating their time and expertise to help each child learn more every year and reach their full potential.

"My child has not only learned football skills but also invaluable life lessons in teamwork and respect."
